Boundary Stones In a Day

Documenting the Boundary Stones of the DC.

The 40 boundary stones are the oldest federal monuments in the country and outline the original 100-square-mile boundary of the District of Columbia.

Of the 40 original boundary stones, 36 remain protected by wrought-iron fences, including ten scattered throughout Arlington, Falls Church and McLean. A 37th stone is on display in the lobby of the D.C. surveyor’s office.
